European Committee on Radiation Risk: Guidance on Clearance

New Guidance

Criteria for "Clearance": Controlling the Release of Solid Materials of Very Low Average Activity for Re-use, Recycling and Disposal. June 2003

Increasing activity in the field of nuclear decommissioning has led to pressure for the adoption of de minimis levels of radioactivity to define materials which may be regarded as below regulatory concern. Materials which have sufficiently low average levels of radioactive content to fall below certain thresholds may be released from regulatory control and re-used, recycled or disposed of without condition.

The European Committee on Radiation Risk has been asked to address this topic and has now made its Guidance Note freely available on this web site (in pdf format). Click here to download
